Mission

Promote the training of highly qualified masters and doctors, competent and with leadership potential, committed to the development of Science, Technology and Innovation, capable of providing technologies that meet the demands of society and that contribute to the improvement of living conditions of the population.

Vision

To be a vanguard and entrepreneurial Post-Graduation Program, recognized nationally and internationally for the excellence and quality of its scientific and technological production, training of human resources and for the social impact of its research, contributing to the sustainable development of the country.

Objectives

* Operate following the Federal Decree 6041/07 that defines the main political strategies for the biotechnological sector;

* Operate in strategic areas that are important to Brazil, defined by Decree 6041/07, like the industrial enzymes and biomacromolecules development and the proposition of new methods and bioprocess that can be used in the biotechnological sector, even when they are not being applied in the health field;

* Train professionals with extensive and significant scientific knowledge in the fields of knowledge associated with biotechnology, as well professionals with a wide entrepreneurial view and knowledge in market analysis and biobusiness, bioethics, intellectual protection and property and technology transfer;

* Prepare and train new researchers and entrepreneurs that can operate in technology based industry management as well as in industrial and academic research areas;

* Help to build locally an academic and technological environment that will allow the Universidade de São João del Rei, through PPGBiotec/CCO, a closer relationship with biotechnology companies specially, but not only, the ones in the region of Belo Horizonte, helping to increase the benefits of the biotechnology APL of Belo Horizonte;

* Help the implantation of a Technological Park in the city of Divinóplis providing, most of all, human resources.

Field 1- Industrial and Environment Biotechnology

a) Molecules Isolation and Bioprocesses applied to the environment

b) Microorganisms like Bioreactors in Biomolecule production

2 - Biotechnology Applied to Health

a) Computer Biotechnology for Biological Data Treatment

b) Isolation and Liberation of Molecules to be applied in Human Health.
